Frequently Asked Questions
-
You'll travel through scenic Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve , Florida’s first aquatic preserve designated in 1966, where dolphins, manatees, pelicans, and ospreys are frequently spotted. The cruise continues out through one of the three main inlets — Big Hickory Pass, New Pass, or Big Carlos Pass — to watch the sun set over the Gulf, a truly breathtaking view.
-
We recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, a light jacket or blanket, and your favorite drinks or snacks (BYOB welcome). Don’t forget your camera to capture the sunset!
-
Children of all ages are welcome! U.S. Coast Guard regulations require that all children 6 and under wear a life jacket while underway. We provide properly sized Coast Guard–approved vests for all passengers. Any person under 18 years of age requires a parent or legal guardian to be aboard.
-
It’s very unlikely. The cruise travels mostly through the calm, protected waters of Estero Bay — shielded by the barrier islands and mainland — where waves are minimal. The pontoon boat’s wide, stable design also greatly reduces motion. If anyone does start to feel uneasy, simply let the captain know — we can adjust speed, return to calmer waters, or head back at any time to keep everyone comfortable.
-
If your captain determines that the weather or sea conditions are unsafe, the trip will be rescheduled or refunded in full. We monitor radar closely to ensure your safety and comfort.
-
Absolutely! You’re welcome to bring your own cooler with beverages and light snacks. Alcoholic drinks are allowed in moderation for guests 21 and over.
-
Clean and full service restrooms with flushable toilets are available at the dock prior to departure and on return. The boat itself does not have an onboard head, so we recommend using the facilities before boarding.
-
Unfortunately, no. The U.S. Coast Guard counts every person on board — including infants and small children — toward the total passenger limit. Under an OUPV (“Six-Pack”) license , a captain is legally permitted to carry a maximum of six passengers, regardless of age or size.
-
Yes — well-behaved dogs are welcome aboard! Please let us know in advance. For safety, dogs must remain on a leash while on board, and owners are responsible for cleanup and ensuring their pet’s comfort during the cruise.
-
Gratuities are not required but are always appreciated. If you enjoyed your cruise, a tip of 10–20% is customary and goes directly to your captain.
About Us
A Family Tradition on Bonita Beach Since 1988
Sunset Bonita Charters is a family-owned business proudly rooted in Bonita Springs for over three decades. Our family has welcomed visitors to this same waterfront location since 1988 — originally as Bonita Beach Resort Motel .
After Hurricane Ian (2022) devastated much of the area, we shifted our focus toward what our family loves most — sharing the beauty of Bonita Beach and its waters. We continue to operate Bonita Boat Rentals and launched Sunset Bonita Charters in 2025 to offer unforgettable sunset experiences on Estero Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
We invite you to join us on the water for one of Bonita Beach’s most iconic experiences — our breathtaking sunset. Serving guests from Bonita Springs, Fort Myers Beach, Estero, and Naples, our goal is simple: to help you relax, connect, and enjoy the beauty of Southwest Florida from a local family who has called it home for 37 years.
Our Mission
To share the timeless beauty and tranquility of Bonita Beach with every guest who steps aboard. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning year after year, our mission is to deliver an experience that blends relaxation, discovery, and genuine Florida hospitality — the kind that has defined our family for generations.
We believe there’s no better way to end a day than drifting across the Gulf as the sky turns to fire — and we’re honored to make that possible for you.

Meet Our Captains
Our captains are all USCG-licensed professionals with years of experience navigating Southwest Florida’s waterways. Many also operate their own fishing charter businesses and bring a wealth of local knowledge to every trip.
